My Current Hair Routine
Hay Daizee Loves!
For the last week or so, I have noticed just how much my hair has grown since I got it colored and cut at the end of June. I am not surprised because I learned my last semester of college that my hair THRIVES with a simple, moisture rich routine. I have had so much going on the last few months that I have only twisted my hair twice. That is unusual for me because twist outs are my thing… at least they were until recently. I was setting a twist out at least every 5 days before my schedule got so crazy. I had to figure out what I could do to my hair that did not take too much time and still had me cute & presentable for work.
It really helps that my new natural hair stylist (shout out to Rosalyn) is all about the HEALTH of my hair. Even with the color, this is the healthiest my hair has ever been. It does not take much for it to curl and wave up (just add water). Thank God, because I do not think I could get away with a routine this simple if my curls were not in such a healthy state. Conditioner and my blow dryer have become my biggest helpers when getting ready.
This is what I have been doing the last few months:
Every morning when I get in the shower, I co-wash my hair. My favorite conditioner to use is TRESemme Moisture Rich Conditioner. It keeps my hair soft, detangled, and smelling good. I let warm to hot water run over my hair for anywhere between 2-5 minutes. It depends on how much time I have. Then I put a ton of conditioner in my hair and finger detangle. Then I grab my Vanity Planet Vitagoods Rejuvenating Scalp Massager and run it through my hair from the roots to the ends. Yes, I can brush through my hair with that thing. That is how manageable my hair is with the added slip from the conditioner. I add a little bit more of the conditioner and let it work its magic while I shower. The steam from the shower helps the conditioner to penetrate my hair better and do its job… ADD MOISTURE. I rinse the conditioner out right before I get out of the shower with cold water to help seal in the moisture. I squeeze the excess water out with my hands and move on to step 2.
Next, I apply a leave-in conditioner while my hair is still fairly wet. Right now, my favorite is Garnier Fructise Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioner. This is my favorite leave-in regardless of how I am styling because it leaves my hair noticeably moisturized for days and it smells good. Now before I picked this back up, I was using Ouidad spray leave-in, in addition to their climate control gel. My hair loved that combo. The gel produced the cutest little ringlets. However, with only using the Garnier Fructise, I can skip a co-wash and just spray my hair with water (with added VO5 conditioner) the next day and it is all I need to moisturize and style. I do not have that option when there is a lot of gel in my hair. The gel has to be completely out in order to style again.
When I am done applying my leave-in, I get my blow dryer and start drying my ringlets on the hot setting (that leave-in also serves as a heat protectant). Once my hair stops dripping, I stop to add a little almond oil (focusing on my ends) and then continue to blow dry. It takes me around 7-8 minutes to get it dry enough to leave the house.
After I am dressed, I grab my Eco Styler Styling Gel with Argan Oil and hair toothbrush. The way I gel my edges depends on how I am wearing it (Fully out, a puff, 2 high puffs, 2 low puffs, sleek ponytail, etc.). Then, I get fancy with my baby hairs and define a few ringlets on the side with the gel. Depending on how much time I have, I go back in with my blow dryer on the cool setting for another minute or 2.
This little routine has simplified my life tremendously. My hair absolutely loves it. It is healthy and growing and that is all that matters. I am going to keep this up as long as I can. I know when it gets colder; I will be looking for something else to do.
