What a Daizee Needs to Bloom
I was doing some research on growing daisies and I found that in order to bloom, daisies need 4 things. They need sun exposure, soil, drainage, and mulch. This is what a daisy needs to grow PHYSICALLY. I wanted to share with all of those who have decided to bloom with me, what we need to grow SPIRITUALLY. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for showing me. Keep reading Daizee Loves.
SUN EXPOSURE
- Exposure (noun) - the state of being exposed to contact with something
A daisy would not exist without the light from the sun. The sun is a major part of the photosynthesis process, which is a process we all need to survive. During photosynthesis, plants take light from the sun and turn the light's energy into energy the plant itself uses to GROW and STAY ALIVE.
As Christians, we need FULL EXPOSURE to the SON to stay alive in the spiritual sense. This means being in constant contact with the SON, which requires having a relationship with the SON.
We know Jesus Christ to be the Son of God.
Matthew 3:17
And a voice from heaven said, "this is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
We know God gave His son so that we would not die.
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"
We also know that Jesus is the light of the world.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Ultimately, No Jesus = No Light = No Life.
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the LIFE. No one come to the Father except through me..."
SOIL
- Root (verb) - establish deeply and firmly
A daisy is physically planted/rooted in soil. The soil is where the daisy gets its moisture (water) and nutrients. As Christians, we should be rooted and grounded in God.
Colossians 2:7
"...rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
Our faith should be deeply rooted and firmly established in His Word. The first 18 verses of John 1 are about how The Word became flesh.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Being rooted and grounded sustains us! Like the daisy, we need water and nutrients. As humans, we get nutrients from food but we know man shall not live by bread alone.
John 6:33-35
33 “...For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." 34 "Sir," they said, "always give us this bread." 35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
I LOVE this parallel because Jesus Christ is EVERYTHING we should be rooted in and He is our spiritual source of water and nutrients! *inserts praise break*
Drainage
- Drainage (noun) - the act of removing more than what is needed or used; excess
A daisy also needs proper drainage within the soil to grow. The process of draining removes what is not needed and what could cause harm. It is basically a filter. When I was reading this, I instantly thought about the Holy Spirit, who is like a fire burning away everything within us that does not belong. It sanctifies, purifies, and cleanses us. I do not know about you, but the Holy Spirit helps me rid myself of a lot of EXTRA that tries to hinder my growth.
1 Corinthians 6
And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
His Holy Spirit is our draining system. It gently encourages us to check out hearts and motives. It helps us to remember God's living and unchanging word day by day. It keeps us from harm.
Romans 8:6
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace
Mulch
- Enrich (verb) - to make finer in quality, as by supplying desirable elements or ingredients
Mulch is ESSENTIAL for growth and for the maintenance of life. It is needed for enrichment of the soil, creating a source of slow-release nutrients, and the reduction of weed growth. When I think of mulch, I think "heavy and unpleasant.” Mulch is typically spread on top of the soil, at the base of the plant, and THROUGHOUT the flowerbed.
Throughout life, we will suffer and have test and trials all around us. We will have to carry some heavy loads and we will not always have the most pleasant experiences. However, suffering is essential for our growth in Christ and for the maintenance of our faith. The same way mulch creates a source of slow-release nutrients for daisies, is the same way trouble in our lives creates a slow-release of Godly characteristics. Moreover, the same way mulch enriches the soil, suffering enriches our Christian experience.
Romans 5:3-5
3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
James 1: 2-4
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything
Now, I am going to do an entire blog post dedicated to weeds but for now just think of weeds as ungodly characteristics. In the same way mulch reduces weed growth, suffering (in the end) reduces these ungodly characteristics. How? Because suffering makes us more like Christ.
Philippians 3:10
I want to know Christ- yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast
Okay Daizee Loves, I have given you the 4 things you need to grow spiritually.
1. Son Exposure
2. Being deeply rooted in God’s Word/Jesus Christ, the way a daisy is rooted in soil
3. The Holy Spirit for your filter/drainage
4. Test & trials to make you strong and more like Christ
I pray this analogy blesses you the way it blessed me!
Love ALWAYS, Megan
